The Wisdom Approach to Perimenopause & Menopause

Midlife symptoms can encompass a wide range of physical, emotional, and psychological changes that typically occur during middle age, roughly between the ages of 40 to 60 years. Though a lot of focus is often put on maternity and menopause, we now know the importance of supporting women at the earliest warning signs for most optimal relief from symptoms. At Wisdom, we don’t want you to wait until symptoms get worse, and we know there is so much that lifestyle and dietary changes can do to change the course of midlife.

Given the multifaceted nature of midlife symptoms, addressing them often requires a holistic approach that considers medical, psychological, social, and lifestyle factors. Having a team of practitioners that support healthy lifestyle practices can help you manage symptoms effectively and improve overall quality of life during this life stage.

Perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms are influenced by various factors, and while there isn't a single "root cause," several common factors contribute to the experiences people have during this life stage.

Here are some important signs and symptoms that we pay attention to at Wisdom:

✔ Hormonal Changes:

Shifting levels of estrogen and progesterone can lead to symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and changes in menstrual patterns. These fluctuations can also lead to symptoms like decreased libido and fatigue.

✔ Physical Changes:

Aging itself brings about physical changes such as decreased muscle mass, changes in metabolism, joint stiffness, and changes in skin elasticity. These changes can contribute to feelings of fatigue, reduced energy levels, and sometimes weight gain. Making sure you have a personalized plan in place to address changing physiology is crucial to feel great at every stage of life.

✔ Psychological and Emotional Factors:

Middle age often brings increased responsibilities, such as caring for aging parents or supporting adult children. This stage of life may also prompt reflections on career satisfaction, personal achievements, and mortality, leading to emotional challenges such as stress, anxiety, or feelings of purposelessness. At Wisdom we take all of this into consideration when designing your personalized care plan.
