I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor trained at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. In my years in practice in integrative and comprehensive settings, I have had the honor to work with a diverse group of individuals and see how much change can happen when we can work together to remove obstacles to healing and work to get to the root cause of disease. Modalities which I utilize to help individuals achieve the health they want include clinical nutrition, exercise prescription, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, physical medicine, intravenous therapy, injection therapy, and pharmacology as needed or indicated.

I first came across naturopathic medicine and the amazing things it can provide to people and their health outcomes when a family member became ill and their only offered treatment was surgical removal of an organ. My family member decided that they did not want that and that there had to be another way – and thus they found a naturopathic doctor to work with. Through working with them and listening to exactly what was going on with them, my family member was able to keep their organ and their symptoms completely resolved.

It was through my observation of this experience that I saw medicine can be practiced in a different way than what we think of as the conventional medicine model. After this experience this family member and myself started to dive into what it takes to become a naturopathic doctor and we found the National University of Natural Medicine – I had always thought it would be great to live in the Pacific Northwest as I am not afraid of rain or cloudy days (some of my favorite weather honestly!), and so I made the move to Portland to attend Portland State University where I majored in Health Studies, Health Sciences and also ran competitively on PSU’s cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track programs with my specialty being the 3000 m steeplechase.

After graduating from PSU in 2013 I enrolled in NUNM and started in the fall of 2013 and thus the journey began! Naturopathic medical school was both an incredibly challenging and rewarding time and luckily during this stressful time we were able to start to put to work the modalities we were learning to help support our bodies thrive during this stressful time. During naturopathic medical school, I also inherently knew the utility in shadowing and observing currently practicing doctors because while we can learn a lot during school, there is always still so much more to learn! It was then both through school, as well as shadowing, that I really began to see just how much naturopathic medicine can help people achieve the health they want and reverse health conditions that had sometimes been persistent for decades.

Why I love being a Physician

Being a Naturopathic Doctor affords me many things – one of the most important things being more time to spend with the people who are seeking help and information regarding their health. I may not always have all the answers (and I truly believe humility in medicine is integral to healing), but I am always up for the challenge to dive into the research and really listen to my patient’s so that we can come up with a feasible and successful solution. The other wonderful thing about naturopathic medicine is the toolkit which we can use – we have many more solutions aside from pharmacology or surgery and though these can be tools we utilize when necessary, I always strive to start lower on our therapeutic ladder and address the root cause to help identify the cause of disease, remove the barriers to health and then utilize more natural therapies to achieve health.

What I love outside of work

I truly believe in work-life balance and so when I am not with patients or immersed in patient-related care you often find me running, hiking, experimenting with new recipes (much to my husband’s chagrin), attempting to garden, reading a good fiction novel, or spending time with my loved ones!

Why I work at Wisdom

Working at Wisdom gives me an opportunity to achieve my goal of helping as many people as I can – and it also allows me to introduce as many people as I can to the healing nature of naturopathic medicine! Wisdom’s healthcare model also allows patients/clients access to a form of medicine they might otherwise be able to afford. And on top of making care more affordable, the providers at Wisdom are all focused on identifying and treating the root cause instead of applying the “name-blame-tame” conventional model.
