Meet our staff:

Dr. Zulmy Mancia
Functional Doctor

My name is Dr. Zulmy Mancia, and I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor. I was born and raised in Southern California, and am the proud daughter of Salvadoran immigrants.

I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology from UC Irvine, and received my doctorate in Naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I focus on finding the root cause of symptoms that my patients experience and create individualized treatment plans for them. My areas of focus are digestive and thyroid health, pre-diabetes, and autoimmune disease.

One of my long term goals is to make Naturopathic Medicine more accessible to the Spanish-speaking population of California and to patients of all socioeconomic levels.

My Story

Born and raised in Southern California, I knew I wanted to be a doctor from the time I was a child. In college, I was exposed to various clinical settings through clinical research and volunteering as a medical translator. In these settings, I felt troubled by the care some patients were receiving. It seemed like they weren’t really listening. And instead of getting to the root cause of a problem, they were treating symptoms only.

Over time, I became disillusioned with the idea of a career in allopathic medicine. This was particularly true as I reached adulthood. When I began to have some medical issues of my own, I had a sense the doctors weren’t really listening and also was unsatisfied with treatment suggestions given, which oftentimes seemed like  a “band-aid” approach. As a child, I had experienced both allopathic and naturopathic treatment whenever I got sick, so it was even more difficult for me to understand that the type of care I received was not the norm. I wanted to provide a different form of care for patients, so I started to look into other careers in the medical field. When I found naturopathic medicine, something clicked and my passion for medicine was reignited. Naturopathic doctors seek to treat the whole person, not just their symptoms. They recognize the power of nature in healing. I felt that this was the path I was always meant to follow.

In my practice today, I work to help my patients feel heard and understood. I look for root causes and create unique treatment plans to meet my patients’ individual needs. As a first-generation American, I feel inspired to work with immigrants and other underserved groups.

What I love outside of work

In my spare time, I love to travel – especially to El Salvador – hike, and try new restaurants. I spend my free time with my family, friends, and my dog, Mickey.
